Hi First Grade Friends & Parents!

I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my excitement about working with your child this upcoming school year. My name is Elizabeth Martin, and I graduated from North Georgia College & State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education. I was in a new program at North Georgia College & State University in which I stayed in an elementary classroom for two years. I was at two different schools in two different counties so I am fully aware of new trends in education and the direction that education is going. I spent twelve weeks in first grade, six weeks in kindergarten, six weeks in second grade, twelve weeks in fourth grade, six weeks in fifth grade, and six weeks in third grade. A couple of my placements were inclusion classrooms, so I am also qualified to teach students with disabilities and special needs. I am also attended seminars on: substitute teacher training, thinking maps, RTI assessment, Interventions, KEYS evaluations, Guided Reading, and many more. So rest assured that your child is in highly qualified and educated hands. I love teaching and have a passion for children. My heart is in first grade, and I cannot wait to get to know you and your children better!

First grade is a year of immense growth and learning. We will be studying the subjects of reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science. Homework will be given on Monday-Thursday, and the students will document their homework assignments each day in their agenda. Each night you will need to sign off in their agenda that they completed their homework, and I will check it in class the next day.

The school supply list is on our school website and at local stores. Please have your child bring all of these items on the first day of school or as soon as possible.

My behavior system consists of pulling cards for not doing the following- listening and following directions, working quietly, raising a hand to speak, being respectful, and completing homework or class work. Each day, the students will document how many cards they pulled, if any, into their agendas. Each night you will need to sign this to let me know that you have seen their daily behavior assessment.

We plan on learning a lot this year, and I want our classroom to always be welcoming to families of the students! Please don’t ever hesitate to email or call me with questions or concerns. I’ll be sending home a monthly newsletter with dates of upcoming events so that if you plan on volunteering, you will be informed on when to come.

I am so excited about working with your child. I welcome questions or comments, and am looking forward to a great year!

Sincerely,
Ms. Elizabeth Martin
